Learning and Technology: Goals, Frameworks, and Processes

Students inhabit a world that has been transformed by the ready availability of information technologies. In this context, 21st Century literacies both outline the rich potential for exploration and creation available to students, but also frame new challenges for educators to address. We will see how to use two frameworks, the SAMR model and the EdTech Quintet, to select and direct the use of technology in the design of new processes for teaching and learning. We will also examine examples of the models in action across a range of subject areas and classroom scenarios.

The Horizon Report: A SAMR Perspective

Each year, the Horizon Project identifies key trends, challenges, and technologies shaping the world of educational technology. In this session, we will see how to combine the insights gained from the Horizon Report with approaches to planning and project development informed by the SAMR model. In particular, we will look at design processes that leverage the technologies identified in 2014 as the basis for education projects that address the full spectrum of challenges outlined in the Report.
